My sister, Deedee, turns 59 tomorrow. She and I had a rocky relationship growing up. She was definitely the bossy big sister. She was tough as nails and had the strength of a woman from the Amazon jungle. We fought all the time. We took a trip to Atlanta from our hometown of Crossett, Arkansas, in the summer I turned twelve. An ice chest was the barrier between us for the twelve hour drive; but it wasn’t enough. We still fought. I never wanted her touching me, especially if we had to share a bed. Thankfully, our relationship has changed. We don’t fight; we don’t argue. We just enjoy family.
Dee is a strong Christian woman. She is a church secretary, a wife, a mom, a daughter, a daughter-in-law…and a great sister. She made me an aunt when she married the father of her children on November 23, 1984. Terry had a daughter already and Georgia Marie has been a blessing to our family! And then…Robyn came along; then Terry came along; then Katelyn came along; and, lo and behold, Jackson made his appearance in 2007. Within twenty-three years, Dee birthed four children. After the loss of Terry, she added two more children when she married Ernie. Now there are multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren. Life is good for this ole Aunt Puh because of her gift of these children.
Our lives have changed over the years with the losses of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and her Terry, but life goes on, constantly relying on God to get us through each episode.
I am grateful for the sister God gave me.
Happiest of Birthdays to you, Diana Dawn Aiken Harrison Ellis. Deer Slayer. Bertha Butt…LOL
