Remember when Y2K was approaching and everyone thought the world would come to an end? Everyone thought that moving in to the new millennium would be disaster for everyone; although we all know time, flowing from centuries through decades and decades and on to the next century, has continued to roll on. I cannot imagine all the changes that a person sees in a lifetime. I have seen change, yes, but my grandmother, born the year Grand Central Station was built and living to age 94…oh, boy! What she must have seen!
The last time I sat and watched TV with my grandmother, we were watching a rodeo. She was telling me of their horse and how much she loved that animal and loved riding. I couldn’t imagine my grandmother on a horse; but then, I realized that a horse was their transportation!
Just imagine the changes in a kitchen. Wood stoves to gas stoves. Electric stoves and then microwaves. Egg beaters and ‘granny’ forks to electric mixers and bread machines.
As the millennium neared, I set my sights on a KitchenAid Professional Stand Mixer. I had received my first stand mixer for Christmas when I was fourteen. Due to my love of cake decorating and making buttercream frosting, I had just about worn that heavy duty Sears Craftsman out. I was on my third set of beaters, but the motor was still going strong.
I ordered the Millennium edition KitchenAid from The Chef’s Catalog. It came with a coupon to have an engraved spare bowl. That bowl says, ‘Made Especially for Patricia Aiken.’ Funny that being what folks would consider and ‘old maid,’ I had no idea that one year later I would be married with a different last name!
I highly recommend a KitchenAid mixer. Mine has a lifting bowl, but there are different types. Standard attachments are the beater and the whisk. As my niece said, you can really ‘blow up’ egg whites. My family has been through a lot of cakes, cookies, cheesecakes, pies, and creamed potatoes in the past 23 years. I expect much more time passing in my kitchen and, hopefully, time will pass with family nearby.
I suggest that everyone have a KitchenAid mixer in their kitchen. Copy this link in your browser for amazon.com. https://amzn.to/3KlV3hS
